What is the difference between an arithmetic and a geometric grid?

An arithmetic grid spaces every level the same dollar amount apart, so percentage spacing shrinks near the top of the range. A geometric grid spaces every level the same percentage apart instead, keeping fee breakeven consistent at every level.

How this is calculated

Arithmetic grids space every level the same dollar amount apart, so the percentage spacing is widest near the lower bound and narrowest near the upper bound. This tool reports both ends, since the narrow end near the top is where a grid is most likely to stop clearing fees.
Geometric grids space every level the same percentage apart instead, so the spacing percentage, and the fee breakeven math, is identical at every level. Most exchange grid bots default to geometric for exactly this reason.
Net profit per completed round trip is estimated as investment per grid level times (spacing percent minus two times the fee percent), since a completed grid trade pays the fee once on the buy and once on the sell.
Breakeven spacing is two times your entered fee percent. If a grid interval's own percentage spacing doesn't clear that, the bot can complete trades on that interval and still lose money to fees alone, before counting the market ever moving against the range.
