Why does liquidity matter beyond the trade thesis?

Illiquid stocks can have wide effective spreads, poor stop-loss fills, and difficulty exiting quickly in a fast move, all of which can hurt a trade regardless of whether the underlying idea was correct.

How this is scored

Each checked warning sign adds one point. Your score out of 8 sorts into three tiers: caution (0 to 2), elevated concern (3 to 5), and high liquidity risk (6 or more).
Illiquid stocks amplify every other risk in a trade: wider effective spreads eat into edge, stop-losses can slip badly, and exiting a losing position fast in a fast-moving market can be far harder than it looked when you entered.
None of these signs alone means don't trade the stock. Together, they describe how much liquidity risk you're taking on regardless of how the thesis plays out.
